Mandatory Credit: Kim Klement Neitzel-Imagn Images The Tampa Bay Rays placed Jeffrey Springs on the 15-day injured list due to left elbow fatigue Sunday and recalled fellow left-hander Tyler Alexander from Triple-A Durham.
The move involving Springs is retroactive to Thursday.
Springs pitched well in his last outing, allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts in six innings of a 2-1 victory versus the Minnesota Twins.
Springs, 31, is 2-2 with a 3.27 ERA in seven appearances (all starts) this season.
He is 23-12 with a 3.39 ERA in 145 career appearances (37 starts) with the Texas Rangers (2018-19), Boston Red Sox (2020) and Rays.
Alexander, 30, is 6-4 with a 5.66 ERA in 19 appearances (seven starts) this season for Tampa Bay.
He is 17-27 with a 4.64 ERA in 139 career appearances (50 starts) with the Detroit Tigers (2019-23) and Rays.
